ResourcesBattery cables are the silent partner in the power transfer process from the vehicle battery to the starter. Proper gauge, or wire size, is critical to assure that all the power possible is transmitted, while also protecting the circuitry from overheating. Texas Battery uses high quality copper alloy terminals to guarantee smooth and efficient power transfer. Terminals come in three basic types, battery post, starter lugs, and accessory terminals. Battery post sizes differ, with positive being larger than the negative, due to the fact that the positive terminal normally wears down sooner than the negative. Starter lugs usually have a diameter of 5/16", 3/8"or 1/2". Some batteries also have lug terminals, with 3/8" being the most common, although some marine batteries use 5/16". To give us the information we need to build your cable, we will need 1) The overall cable length; 2) battery post type (Positive, negative, or stud); 3) accessory terminals and leads)if any); 4) cable color-typically red for positive and black for negative 5) the guage of cable required. Remember that wire gauges are in inverse order to their relative size, so that 0000(4/0) is larger than 0(1/0), and both are larger than 1,2,4,6, and 8. Email photos are helpful, or some customers simply bring or ship the failed cable to us to replicate. Most cables can be made the same day. Some multiple orders may require more time. Booster Cables Booster cables are a necessity in the fleet service business. Again, propert gauge determines the success in boosting, along with quality clamps. We stock the two major sizes of automotive booster cables, 4 and 2. We also stock 2 and 6 gauge booster lead in bulk rolls for special projects. We can fabricate custom booster cables and remote vehicle connectors for sizes through 2/0. Booster Packs Booster packs have changed the way vehicles are started remotely. They have become much more reliable, and now offer convenience of reverse polarity protection, multiple voltages, air compressors, inverters and USB ports. Most have the recharging mechanism built in. The Quick Cable line even has LEDs built into many of the clamps on their heavy duty models to assist with low light usage. We can help you determine the best booster pack for your application needs. We also stock replacement batteries for all major brands of booster packs, and can replace the batteries at our facility. Delivery and Disposal BAtteries are often referred to as the only perishable item in the hard parts business. Because of their intrinsic chemistry, they need to be checked for proper voltage while in storage and prior to installation. Their relatively high per unit cost requires efficient management of inventory, while also requiring the proper sizes in stock to cover application needs. Active BCI group sizes (the part numbering system for batteries) now number over 65, with well over 100 sizes registered. Our wholesale customers are serviced every 2 weeks, with freshly ordered inventory. Customer stock levels are monitored on a regular basis, with aged product either rotated with fresh product, or returned for credit if the market demand for a particular item has diminished. Our local customers are accustomed to seeing our service vans aroundLubbock, as we service homes, businesses and fleets on a daily basis. Our knowledgeable staff works on an appointment basis, as well as servicing urgent demands. Each vehicle is equipped to complete battery installation on the spot, because we know the value of time in today's economy. We also sell booster packs (see the Booster Pack section) to give customers the peace of mind and security of being able to start their vehicle in emergency situations. Batteries are a unique item to handle. Because they are most often under the hood, or in a relatively inaccessible place, they are usually dirty and often corrosion laden at the time of replacement. Beyond the normal routine of removing batteries from vehicles that we are servicing, we also accept and remove disposed batteries for recycling. We offer certificates of disposal, including our TECQ and EPA permit numbers, to assure safety and environmental departments of bussiensses and government entities that batteries left with us will be recycled property by EPA certified smelters.
